Art GOALS for First & Second Grade 


  • Introduce and explore the Elements of Art: line, shape, color, texture, value, form, and space 
  • Learn drawing skills through line types (curved, zig-zag, swirls, etc)
  • Learn about organic vs geometric shapes
  • Learn about the use of different patterns.
  • Learn painting skills that include color mixing secondary colors, work on using different brush strokes and use and care of both brushes and paint.
  • Learn about the art style of collage
  • Learn about 3-Dimensional art through paper sculpture, paper weaving and clay.
  • ​Learn about various famous artists through books and looking at pictures their art
  • All students participate in the No Place for Hate Art Contest focusing on "Strength in Community & Diversity" ​
  • Study in depth about Claude Monet and his famous painting The Japanese Footbridge 
  • Content connections to enrich curriculum
  • Connect literature to art  through various projects and stories
  • Connections to math through various art projects
